About a year ago my little daughter was taken ill with...

About a year ago my little daughter was taken ill with what our family physician termed mastoiditis, and we were told that an operation was necessary. We called into consultation a specialist, who confirmed the diagnosis of our own physician, and who emphasized the necessity for an immediate operation. Our baby was to be taken to the hospital the next morning.

My sister-in-law, who is interested in Christian Science, suggested that we turn to God for help, and that we would receive it. She told us of Christian Science and what it had done for her, and asked us if she might call on a practitioner for help. In despair we decided to try it. The practitioner, who had taken up the work as soon as he had been notified, came with my sister-in-law that evening and stayed about an hour, allaying our fears and explaining something of God and of man's relationship to Him: all this while our baby seemed perfectly normal, laughing and enjoying herself. We were given a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which my wife and I read for several hours after the practitioner had gone. The following day the doctor called, and to use his expression, he was "the most astonished man in the world." He told us he could not understand the change in the child in the short space of time: the swelling had disappeared.

Since then we have had other difficulties which have been overcome through the application of God's law, and we can no longer doubt man's oneness with God. Words cannot express our gratitude to God, our loving Father-Mother; to Christ Jesus; to Mary Baker Eddy; and to the kind practitioner for bringing Christian Science into our home.
