I awoke one night about five years ago with a very bad pain in my back, and walked up and down the room using some rather dreadful words. My wife, who had known of Christian Science for many years, asked me lovingly if she should telephone to a physician, but I answered, "No." Later, when the pain grew no better, she asked me if I would try Christian Science treatment. I stopped for a moment and thought, Well, I might as well try it! But at the time I did not really believe it could have the power to take the pain away from my back. However, I had taken my stand; so my wife telephoned to a practitioner for help for me, with the result that half an hour later the pain had left. I have never since had a return of it. This was my first experience of the healing power of Christian Science; and during the years which have followed I myself, as well as my family, have had many definite demonstrations.

I might mention some of the most important healings which have come through the spiritual understanding gained by the study of Christian Science. My wife was healed of some very heavy attacks of hemorrhage after the birth of our youngest son. This son, now four years old, was healed of adenoids after a few treatments by a practitioner. Our eldest son, eleven years old, was healed of a condition caused by contraction of the ear channels. A physician who examined him before Christian Science treatment was begun, stated that when the boy grew older a surgical operation would be necessary; but this condition has entirely yielded to Christian Science treatment.

Our five-year-old daughter was crushed under a very heavy wardrobe when she was two years old, but came through the experience with only slight skin contusions, a fact which we attribute to our understanding of the protective power of Christian Science.
