A recent issue of your paper contains an account of an attack on Mary Baker Eddy and Christian Science by a minister who states that he has "heard a few lectures on the subject and read a few more, and as a rule they say very little that could not be preached from any pulpit." Then he continues his remarks by saying: "They talk of the beautiful things they find in it, but its hideous, un-Christian side they leave in the background." No doubt the minister would have omitted the latter portion of his remarks had he been familiar with the teachings of Christian Science and with the true life-history of Mary Baker Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder.

The minister asserts that Mrs. Eddy is not the author of Christian Science. This false accusation was disproved years ago, when Mrs. Eddy took action in the courts of Massachusetts to protect the copyright of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." The minister finds fault with the philosophy of Christian Science and with its system of healing. It is known throughout the length and breadth of the land that Christian Science reforms the sinner and heals the sick through spiritual means only, just as Christ Jesus himself did and demanded that his followers should do. Christian Science differs from mere scholastic theology, but in so doing it keeps in the direct path of the teachings and practice of the Master.

The minister invites Christian Scientists to return to the folds of their former churches. Practically the entire membership of the Christian Science church came from the folds of the Baptist, Methodist, Congregational, Episcopal, and other churches. Christian Scientists still love the churches of their former faith, but as there came a time in their lives when these churches could not meet their needs and Chris tian Science did, they lovingly withdrew from them. The minister says that he wants to be fair with Christian Science, and we are willing to grant that he does. However, every student of Christian Science with a knowledge of its teachings knows positively that either the minister has not studied the Christian Science textbook and is therefore ignorant of its teachings, or he is prejudiced against Christian Science to the extent of seriously misquoting it.
