Twenty-seven years ago I was healed of a complication...
Twenty-seven years ago I was healed of a complication of diseases, some of which I had suffered from since childhood. Much of my time for fifteen years was spent in bed. The disease diagnosed by reputable medical men were stomach, liver, kidney, lung, and heart troubles. The last specialist consulted would not prescribe for me. He said there was no remedy known to him that could cure me; and he gave me but a short time to live. About this time some dear friends from Chicago, Illinois, came to my home bringing the message of Christian Science. They gave me a copy of The Christian Science Journal, also "Unity of Good" by Mrs. Eddy, and told me of "the scientific statement of being," as given in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 468), and asked me to memorize it.
As I talked with these friends, the spiritual light dawned upon my longing sense, and great joy and courage sprang up within me. I saw that Christian Science was indeed the Christ-message, "the stone which the builders rejected." The new heaven and earth began to appear. I devoured the contents of these books, reading them night and day. The Scriptures were illumined; every promise glowed with life and health. I forgot my body in remembering God. A paralyzed organ, which would fall out of place when not held by a support, found its normal position in less than twenty-four hours after the Christ, Truth, dawned upon my consciousness, and has remained in place all these years. I was so absorbed in reading the Bible and Science and Health, and in helping my brethren, that I was daily, hourly, resurrected from dead beliefs—was awakened from self-centeredness, bitterness, resentment, and the darkness of mortal ignorance and fear of inheritance in matter. I was completely transformed through the constant study of the Christian Science textbook and the light it threw upon the Holy Scriptures.
I came out slowly, but surely, and rejoiced all the way. The spiritual illumination was instantaneous. At the end of three years I was mentally and physically a perfectly well woman, and have remained so ever since.
