Our Testimony Meetings
From the moment one begins to seek the wonderful healing which Christian Science promises, the Wednesday evening meeting, where "experiences, testimonies, and remarks on Christian Science" (Church Manual, p. 122) may be listened to, becomes one of the mightiest factors in his progress. It is here that his interest in this Science is ever renewed, his faith constantly strengthened, his hope reassured. Here the heart-hungry are fed with the bread of Life, which instantly begins to encourage and sustain them; and here they drink of the living water which quenches their thirst for the spiritual truth which they were scarcely aware they desired.
And all this good is given in so simple and natural and homelike a manner that even from the stranger's first visit he finds himself being comforted! He feels he has found friends who understand his needs; for are they not telling how they have felt the very same needs? Yes; have not only felt them, but they are telling just how God has met and supplied them too!
Perhaps nothing has evidenced more remarkably the inspiration and great wisdom of our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in founding and establishing the Cause of Christian Science than her institution of these same Wednesday evening meetings. It is in them that the world is assured audibly, renewedly, and with unquestionable sincerity, that Christian Science is the religion of Christ Jesus, because at these meetings all may learn that this Science heals the sick and reforms the sinner in the very same way that Jesus and his disciples practiced their healing ministry. These testimony meetings, then, are a decided mark of differentiation between the Christian Science church and other religious denominations.
