Christian Science is to me the truth transforming my life...
Christian Science is to me the truth transforming my life. I had drifted from all thoughts of religion and was very much opposed to Christian Science, as I thought of it at that time, although it was presented to me by a very dear friend; in fact, I almost shudder now when I think of the things I said about it. But as many others have experienced, when everything else had failed, and the physicians could hold out no hope for me, I finally came to my senses and my thought turned to Christian Science. There was a copy of one of the early editions of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy in our home, and I began to read that. Very soon I experienced a great sense of peace and harmony, such as I had never known before, and I longed for a better understanding of this truth.
At this time I was living in a small town and knew of but one Christian Science student living there. I told her of my desire, and she very lovingly told me how she had taken her first steps along the road from sense to Soul. The result was that I sent for a new edition of Science and Health and a Christian Science Quarterly, and with these and the Bible I began reading the Lesson-Sermons. I could not get enough, and often read very late into the night and sometimes until early morning, as this was a time when I felt I could be absolutely alone with God. Soon I found that my ills were disappearing one by one. Words cannot express my gratitude for the wonderful blessings Christian Science has brought to me.
I might state that a little later on a number of Christian Science students began reading the Lesson-Sermons in my home each Sunday morning; and after a short time a Christian Science Society was organized and held regular meetings in a rented hall. Although I have not lived in that town for a number of years, it is gratifying to add that the little society grew steadily, and that it has recently become a church owning its own church home.
