"The things of God"

Jesus took "the things of God" and showed them unto men. Mrs. Eddy, speaking in her book "Retrospection and Introspection" (pp. 24, 25), says, "I ... withdrew from society about three years,—to ponder my mission, to search the Scriptures, to find the Science of Mind that should take the things of God and show them to the creature, and reveal the great curative Principle,—Deity."

All true work in Christian Science, then, is the revealing of the ideas of God, which correct the false and inharmonious concepts of human sense, bringing to light the good and harmonious expression of the divinely real. Christian Science workers, therefore, are continually endeavoring to understand more and more of "the things of God," and to show them unto others.

How necessary it is to be watchful that nothing is consciously permitted to cause us to neglect making constant effort to progress in our understanding of the reality of all things spiritual! The good to human sense may sometimes seem more satisfying for the moment, because of our lack of growth in things spiritual, and human demands and difficulties may be allowed to hold us from the performance of higher duties. So it is imperative that we be watchful not to stop short of anything less than the highest possible attainment of the conscious expression of what is real and good. To do this we cannot afford to neglect consistent study of the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. And, in particular, we should gain a proper understanding of Church, which is defined by her on page 583 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" as follows: "The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle. The Church is that institution, which affords proof of its utility and is found elevating the race, rousing the dormant understanding from material beliefs to the apprehension of spiritual ideas and the demonstration of divine Science, thereby casting out devils, or error, and healing the sick." Members and workers in the Christian Science organization, established by Mrs. Eddy, are privileged to unite, each in his own respective way and to the utmost of his ability, in making known to the world the signification of these words by the practical demonstration of their meaning.
