Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication for the Year Ended September 30, 1925

In the past year philosophy and human reason in Germany have strongly resisted the Christianly metaphysical doctrine of Christian Science, and fought against it. We have, nevertheless, joy and steadfastness in the knowledge of the truth explained to us by the Apostle Paul in I Corinthians 1:18: "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?"

Misrepresentations of Christian Science and attacks upon it have occurred far more frequently in the past year than they have in previous years. In one hundred and two cases the Committee has sent corrections of misrepresentations appearing in daily papers and, so far as is known these corrections were printed in the papers in thirty-three instances.

Periodicals, too, especially religious ones, have occupied themselves more frequently with our religion, publishing articles against it or mentioning it in articles. In thirty-five cases the Committee has sent corrections to periodicals. The clerical periodicals generally displayed little inclination to accept them, although in seven cases notices of corrections received have appeared; and in one of these cases the entire correction was printed without any editorial comments. Public lectures by evangelical pastors against Christian Science have not been lacking this year, either. Many pastors still consider it their official duty to warn their congregations against Christian Science. In many cases it was clearly obvious, from the representation, that the lecturers did not know our authorized literature at all, but merely repeated, without any personal investigation, what they had read in aggressive writings or what they had heard people say.
