The Mother Church Funds
In the Christian Science Sentinel of February 27, 1926, we announced that there had been established in the office of the Treasurer of The Mother Church a Charitable Institutions Fund, from which appropriations would be made as they may be needed for The Christian Science Benevolent Association, The Christian Science Pleasant View Home, or any similar institutions that may be established by The Mother Church in accordance with Section 8 of Article I of the Church Manual. Now we announce that The Mother Church has established another fund, to be known as the Endowment and Extension Fund. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, furnished a precedent for this fund when she bequeathed and devised the bulk and residue of her estate to The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, in trust, to be devoted and used by The Mother Church for the purpose of more effectually promoting and extending the religion of Christian Science as taught by her. This will be the purpose of the Endowment and Extension Fund.
A contributor to this fund may specify a particular purpose for which his gift is especially intended, provided it be within the general purpose just stated, and in any such case the gift shall be used accordingly. A contributor to this fund may also stipulate that the principal of his gift shall be preserved intact and only the income shall be used for the purpose of this fund. In any such case, also, the gift shall be kept and used accordingly. A contributor to this fund may also stipulate for any other condition to be fulfilled by The Mother Church, and in any such case this Board shall consider and decide whether to accept the gift in behalf of The Mother Church. When it is thus accepted, however, the condition shall be regarded as binding upon The Mother Church, and shall be fulfilled accordingly. Except as may be otherwise specified or stipulated by donors, The Christian Science Board of Directors shall consider and determine, in the exercise of its discretion, the particular purposes for which money or property in this fund shall be used, but all money or property given to or put into this fund (both principal and interest) shall be used for the purpose of more effectually promoting and extending the religion of Christian Science as taught by Mary Baker Eddy.
Contributions for any fund of The Mother Church should be sent to the Treasurer, Edward L. Ripley, 206 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts. Correspondence preliminary to gifts involving conditions should be addressed to this Board.
