[Written for the Sentinel]

Kindness

As a tender little idiom to the mother-tongue,
So is kindness to the universal language of Love.

As the pendant leaves, a-twinkle, a-whisper,
To the mighty, far-reaching bough,
So is the exquisite grace of kindness
To the great law of Love.

As the foam that garlands the waves,
Floats in a rainbow of brightness,
So kindness springs eternally
From the great heart of Love.
