For the information of your readers, kindly allow me to make a statement concerning the practice of Christian Science, because you have reported Nelson Loris, the boy preacher, as saying that Christian Science healing differs from divine healing in that "Christian Science employs the power of mind over matter," while divine healing comes from having faith in God.

In fact, Christian Science healing involves an absolute faith in God on the part of the practitioner, but a faith based on spiritual understanding. Furthermore, this practice does not employ the power of mind over matter at all, except as it employs the power of divine Mind over the so-called human or mortal mind and its erroneous conditions.

Mrs. Eddy begins to make these distinctions clear in the Preface of her principal work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she explains that Christian Science healing does not present a phase of the action of the human mind but "results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and disease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as naturally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to reformation" (p. xi).
