Will you kindly allow me space in your paper for the following corrections of certain statements regarding Christian Science, which were made by a clergyman in a lecture given at the general annual meeting of the Swedish Pastors' Association. His subject was, "Modern Religious Substitutes—a Religious Danger." In dealing with Christian Science the clergyman said that the kernel of this religion is the emphasis it lays on the power of mind over the body. Christian Science does emphasize the fact that Mind controls the body, not even partially, but wholly; but this controlling Mind is not the sinful sense of mortals, or the carnal mind: it is that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus." There is no strong suggestive power in this Mind, nor can any disastrous consequences follow its application. There is no mind-over-matter or mind-over-mind process in this method of healing all manner of disease and sin: it is the power of God operating in human consciousness according to fixed spiritual law. And this law is just as available to-day, and just as effective, as it was in Jesus' time.

Christian Science does not treat disease or sin as illusion merely, but as the result of a false concept of Being. It does not exalt the healthy sinner and condemn the sick saint. It teaches that true health is a quality of Life, the divine Principle, God, and that man, made in the image and likeness of this eternal Principle, must manifest all of its qualities; for as the Scripture declares, "The Lord he is God; there is none else beside him." It is utterly inconceivable and impossible for the infinite, perfect God to include, permit, or employ evil. All Christians agree that Jesus was the Wayshower. He himself said, "I am the way;" "Follow thou me." He cast out evils and healed the sick through his understanding of the truth about God and man; he practiced the religion which he taught, and commanded his followers to do likewise. Christian Scientists understand that his commandments were intended for all Christians for all time, and that these commandments can and must be obeyed in order to manifest his christianity. They do not find any authority for annulling any of them. Who has the authority to say that one of them is to be obeyed and another not?
