A lack of understanding of Christian Science and of the...
Western News
A lack of understanding of Christian Science and of the attitude of Christian Scientists toward doctors is made apparent by a church announcement in a recent issue of your paper. One could not be possessed of a correct knowledge of Christian Science and conclude that it is neither Science nor Christian, because it is the knowledge and practice of God's laws. To illustrate: Christian Scientists approach the solution of their problems and the cure of disease with the affirmation that God is the only cause and creator, and that all that He made is good. These being eternal truths, they are scientific in the highest sense; and having been taught by Christ Jesus, they are entitled to the name Christian. These are not, however, employed by physicians, who proceed along the line of human invention and discovery. Christian Scientists are not blinded to the fact that there are those in large numbers who still cling to material methods of healing; and to such the cultured physician is rendering a splendid service. Mrs. Eddy says on page 164 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "It is just to say that generally the cultured class of medical practitioners are grand men and women, therefore they are more scientific than are false claimants to Christian Science."
