Working with God

One of the first treasures we find in our study of Christian Science is the statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 468), "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." This statement of Truth is very powerful, and is proving a priceless boon to countless numbers of people all over the world who have turned and are turning to God daily for aid in working out their various human problems in accordance with the teaching of Christian Science. This turning to God and applying the above rule is indeed to work with God. What a joyous privilege,—to work with God! At one time a student of Christian Science was faced with the problem of finding employment. There did not seem to be any direct material way to take, so it was seen that the problem must be worked out alone with God. Turning away, therefore, from all material evidences and considerations, thought was firmly held to God, with the result that the problem was solved most harmoniously.

The first thing one may know in turning to God for aid is that God is infinite Mind. Since there can be only one infinite, there is only one all-inclusive Mind, who is also the omniscient, all-understanding, all-acting divine Principle, constantly governing and protecting the universe and man. Then the realization follows that since God is All-in-all, He, by nature of His allness, includes all ideas, and holds them in their right places. With the understanding that all reality is under the government of divine Mind, there comes the realization that there is no lack of employment or supply, however strongly the evidence of so-called mortal mind may argue to the contrary, such arguments being only seeming, since they deny the allness of God, good. Since Mind in no way partakes of the nature of matter, its manifestation must be spiritual. As an idea in Mind, therefore, man must be spiritual, governed only by spiritual law, which is supreme. Because there is no place for a lie in omnipresent Truth, we must hold steadfastly to our understanding of the allness and oneness of divine, omnipresent Spirit.

So, when we seem to be confronted with the suggestion of being "out of place," we should know that it cannot touch us if we truly see selfhood as in its right place, as being at-one with God, Spirit, and never for an instant yield to the arguments of so-called material law, material desires or needs, since our real need is for spiritual development. As one realizes that man's needs are spiritual, he can be at peace, because he knows that man is a spiritual idea,—God's own idea,—and therefore cannot possibly be outside the infinite and absolute protection of Spirit.
