About eight years ago I was in a wretched condition, due to physical ailments. I had submitted to two operations and been to many doctors, but had found no relief. At this period of need, my thoughts went back to the time when it had been my privilege to live in a home where the family were living and demonstrating the rules of Christian Science practice. I had attended the Christian Science church services and read the Lesson-Sermons a few times, but without gaining any understanding.
I was filled with fear and anxiety about the condition that physicians and surgeons had failed to alleviate. Many nights I walked the floor with pain that seemed almost unbearable. One day I went to a Christian Science practitioner and stated my case to her, following this up with three weeks' treatment. At the end of that time I told her I had not improved, and discontinued the treatments. The truth about the case was that I had improved, but did not realize at the time the many errors of thinking that had left my consciousness. In about two weeks I was very glad to go back to the practitioner and tell her I was ready to work with her and take up the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to find out what Christian Science was and why it healed. The healing was slow but perfect, and has remained so. I even thank my heavenly Father for the slowness of it, for it made me study and work; and thus I gained the understanding I might not have had to-day had the healing work in my case been accomplished quickly.
I am grateful to God; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her loving sacrifices for the good of all humanity; and to those who so lovingly helped me over the seemingly hard places. It is my earnest desire to progress and to consecrate my life to helping others on their way to spiritual understanding.
