I shall be obliged if you will allow me, through your columns, to deal with a point raised in an address on the subject of "Spiritual Healing," as reported in your issue of recent date. Referring to testimonies of healing given at a Christian Science church in London which he attended, the critic concluded that the results obtained were not due to Christian Science. The inference is that testimonies of healing given in Christian Science churches at their Wednesday evening meetings do not bear witness to the healing power of Christian Science, but merely relate results effected through some activity of the human mind. This is quite contrary to fact, because this so-called mind is not a factor in Christian Science healing. Every healing in Christian Science involves the elimination of the so-called human or carnal mind and its erroneous beliefs, and the substitution therefor of the ideas of divine Mind. Christian Science teaches that God is infinite Mind, the all-inclusive intelligence; and the recognition of this fact involves the admission that there are not minds many. The healings which take place at Christian Science services and through the individual study of the Bible in conjunction with the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, are the "signs" following the acceptance of the great fact that God is the only Mind and that sin and disease are no part of the divine knowledge, and cannot, speaking absolutely, be real.

On page 482 of the above-mentioned textbook Mrs. Eddy writes: "Sickness is part of the error which Truth casts out. Error will not expel error. Christian Science is the law of Truth, which heals the sick on the basis of the one Mind or God. It can heal in no other way, since the human, mortal mind so-called is not a healer, but causes the belief in disease." Manipulation and suggestion are expressly excluded from this teaching. It is noteworthy that those testifying to the healing power of Christian Science invariably express gratitude, not only for physical healing, but also for the accompanying spiritual uplift, which is an essential part of any real healing. In this manner does the Christ, Truth, reach mankind here and now, to save from both sickness and sin.
