“I have passed through a time of very severe…”
I have passed through a time of very severe difficulties. That I was able to overcome them I owe entirely to Christian Science. In March, 1922, I had a hemorrhage while walking in the street. I was taken to a hospital and examined by several doctors, who all diagnosed the trouble as tuberculosis of both lungs. An X-ray picture taken at that time left no doubt as to the correctness of the diagnosis. The symptoms which accompany this trouble tormented me terribly. The loss of blood referred to weakened me extremely, and the chief resident physician considered my condition very critical.
In this the darkest hour of my life I heard for the first time of Christian Science. Through some friends I became acquainted with a practitioner, who lovingly came to my assistance. In this way I also obtained possession of the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy. I at once saw a new world open up before me. I strove to understand this teaching, to free myself from the false beliefs of my previous life; and slowly but steadily, with God’s help, I began to walk on firm ground. The first treatment from the practitioner resulted in wonderful good. The conditions of exhaustion, fever, cough all abated; my voice grew stronger and fuller; and my appetite began to return. As I read in the textbook, my faith and confidence increased every day.
The doctors, who one day while visiting my had casually read in the textbook, examined me and found that my condition had considerably improved. From then on I progressed rapidly. I was able to get up, and all symptoms of the dreaded disease fell from me. The doctors were astonished at the change, and were even more surprised when one day, through an examination of my blood, it was proved that I was well. My joy and that of my family knows no bounds. I regret the inadequacy of words to express my feelings. I am sincerely grateful to the dear practitioner and to the friends who have pointed out to me the way of Truth.
