Some three years ago I was a complete wreck, both mentally and physically. I had been seriously ill with pneumonia, and was informed by the doctor on my partial recovery that the left lung was very weak. During the convalescent stage I heard of the death of my husband, who had been a prisoner in Germany and who died before the armistice. This grief caused a relapse. I felt that life was not worth living, and had a great wish to go away from all my friends, although they had done everything they humanly could for me.

It was at this time that some friends who had known my husband in the training camp, and who were Christian Scientists, invited me to stay with them in the country. I felt a great longing to go to them, and therefore accepted their loving hospitality, although at the time I had not the least idea what Christian Science meant. From the time I entered their house I experienced a wonderful sense of peace and happiness. After about six weeks I returned to London; and my doctor was astounded, as were also my many friends, who never expected to see me perfectly healed. I was not only healed of the physical ailments,—lung trouble, indigestion, and insomnia,—but my heart was made whole, and I found comfort and peace. My heart goes out in sincere gratitude to the dear friend who first brought me to the light, and for her loving, untiring help during the time of my illness.

The study of this wonderful truth has given me enlightened understanding of our dear Father-Mother God, and changed my life completely from one of darkness and despair to light and hope. The knowledge of the ever-presence of God has been a tremendous help to me. Words seem inadequate to express my gratitude to God and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the healing and the many blessings I have received through Christian Science. My earnest desire is to know more of this saving power and to prove my gratitude by loving and living for others.
