A physician, writing for your paper under the caption "Health Talks," quotes from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and refers to the material belief about psychology in a manner indicating that he thinks Christian Science and such psychology are related or similar. I wish to correct any misunderstanding on this point by stating that Christian Science is the Science of infinite Soul, or God, and in the method used by Christ Jesus in the healing of disease. This system relies solely on one God, or Mind, and all its effects are good. Human psychology, like a number of other theories, is based on a belief in many minds, each of which is supposed to exercise power for either good or evil, a supposition that has always been destructive to health and sanity.

The physician evidently intends to convey the impression that Christian Scientists think the sensible thing to do is to rely on both material and spiritual means for healing. Such an inference is far from the truth, as Christian Science teaches plainly that only through complete reliance on God can true healing power be demonstrated. Our medical friend would have his readers conclude that the only recourse for the sick is the doctor. The record of accomplishment by material means of healing does not sustain his argument, eve in the case of the one ailment he mentions. Christian Science is glad to point to what God has done for His children throughout the ages, and maintains that no lesser agencies can perform the works of Spirit or are necessary to sustain that which our heavenly Father has established.
