Many
an individual cherishes the belief that he is handicapped in his progress through life by a lack of educational advantages, or mental equipment of some other kind.
The
teacher in a Christian Science Sunday School learns through a study of the Church Manual that Christian Science teaching is based on the moral law, as set forth in the Ten Commandments, and on the fuller revelation of law which Christ Jesus revealed in the Beatitudes and the Lord's Prayer.
It
is the desire of every earnest student of Christian Science to obey all our Leader's injuctions, primarily because each wishes to aid in establishing Christ's kingdom on earth, and also because each knows that a rich reward awaits those who yield intelligent obedience to her requests.
Hugh Stuart Campbell, Committee on Publication for the State of Illinois,
As your journal is "devoted to accuracy, dependability, and honesty in every department,"—to quote from your monthly announcement,—kindly allow me to inform you and your readers that a misstatement with reference to Christian Science appeared in the "Let's Talk It Over" department of a recent issue, under the heading "Suggestion—or Mental Therapeutics.
Edwin C. Buck, Committee on Publication for New Hampshire,
I have at hand a copy of your valued paper containing excerpts of an attack made by a local clergyman on Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy.
James M. Stevens, Committee on Publication for the State of Minnesota,
The reference to Christian Science in the serial now appearing in your paper is misleading, as it confuses Christian Science treatment—which is the utilization of the law of divine Mind, God—with the employment of the teachings of Sigmund Freud, which deal only with the human mind.
Lester B. McCoun, Committee on Publication for the State of Nebraska,
A physician, writing for your paper under the caption "Health Talks," quotes from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and refers to the material belief about psychology in a manner indicating that he thinks Christian Science and such psychology are related or similar.
Those having charge of lecture arrangements for churches and societies in the United States and Canada should carefully note that announcements of lectures for publication in the Sentinel, as well as all changes of date, hour, or place, should be sent direct to the Editorial Department of The Christian Science Publishing Society as early as possible.
The attention of clerks and committees of branch churches in the United States and Canada, having in charge arrangements for lectures, is called to the necessity of having the information reach the Editorial Department at least four weeks before the date of the lecture, in order to insure publication in the Sentinel.
In the darkest hour of my life, through the passing on of a dearly beloved one, I was led to Christian Science, which a member of my family was studying at that time.
As a subscriber, you can download any Sentinel issue published within the last 90 days (PDF, eBook, and audio). You can also take a look inside each issue as it originally appeared in print, starting with the very first issue from 1898.
