In the darkest hour of my life, through the passing on...
In the darkest hour of my life, through the passing on of a dearly beloved one, I was led to Christian Science, which a member of my family was studying at that time. From the very depths of despair and loneliness I cried to God and He answered me. Christian Science treatment was asked for, and after one present treatment I went home singing. Though I did not understand what had brought about the complete change, I was convinced that I had found the Comforter which leads "into all truth." What most impressed me at that first visit to the faithful practitioner was the entirely different idea of Love I was given. The idea of impersonal, universal Love dawned on my consciousness and healed me instantaneously of sorrow and loneliness, which had contained much of self-love and self-pity. Though the struggle was not over then, I had seen "the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world;" and as I continued the study of Christian Science it was a great relief to find that "God is no respecter of persons," and that we all may know Him and love Him understandingly.
In the years that have followed, many beautiful healings have been experienced. From childhood I suffered most of the year from severe attacks of bronchitis, which caused much fear to my family, as I was considered very delicate. With the kind help of a practitioner I began to see man as spiritual, as living, moving, and breathing in the "atmosphere of love divine." As fear left me, in proportion as Truth and Love flooded my consciousness, the attacks grew less and less; and for more than three years I have not missed one day's work on account of sickness. By knowing that there is but one influence, the influenza of God, good, I was able to overcome an attack of influenza in one night. Though grateful for these physical healings, as proofs of Immanuel, "God with us," I am also very grateful for the healing of discordant conditions in my daily school work.
I am deeply grateful to God for Christian Science; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy; to practitioners and friends, who are ever ready to help and encourage; and to the faithful ones who are working for our periodicals, which are always helpful and inspiring.
