Christian Science is established; it is not a fad; it is here...
News-Tribune
Christian Science is established; it is not a fad; it is here to stay. The name "Christian Science" is comparatively new, but Christian Science itself is not strange or unusual; the foundation on which it is builded always has had existence. One who knows what Christian Science is would not term it a fad; he would say it is that which is true. By "true" is meant that it is exact knowledge,—that which can be proved, or worked out in accordance with fixed truth or law. "Law" here is unchangeable; it goes on in its operation the same yesterday, and to-day, and all the time. When this is seen and understood, and made practical in human experience, it cannot be labeled a fad. Thought, in order to grasp the teaching of Christian Science and to be in harmony with it, must be lifted from the material viewpoint. Moses, while on the mountain of Horeb, talked with God, and received messages from Him. Jesus went up into a mountain, and there gave out that memorable sermon, the Sermon on the Mount. When he was on the Mount of Olives the people were impressed with his wonderful spiritual teaching. John saw things spiritual and eternal through his uplifted and illumined spiritual vision. These things are not to be looked upon as supernatural; they were divinely natural. Christian Science is reaffirming this same teaching, and making it practical for daily needs.
Much of the criticism now thrown at Christian Science should not be regarded as serious. Many former critics of this religion are to-day either Christian Scientists themselves or friends of Christian Science. One cannot call Christian Science a fad and be consistent. Christian Science already has too much good to its credit, in the healing of the sick and the bringing of comfort to those in distress, to justify censure of it. However, Christian Science is not a system of healing for physical ailments alone; it is a religion,—a religion that shows the sinner the way of reformation and holiness, a religion on which one can depend at all times and under all circumstances. Christian Science is a restatement of primitive Christianity; it is based on the Bible; it exemplifies the life, the teaching, and the practice of Jesus the Christ. Christian Science and its methods are opposed to suggestion, hypnotism, mental science, and their methods; it acknowledges no power but good; it recognizes one God, who is infinite good, and Christ Jesus as the Way-shower.
