Six years ago my husband gave me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At that time I little realized what that book would mean to me. It surely is a "pearl of great price." Since then the Bible and Science and Health have become my daily companions. They are teaching me to look to God, divine Principle, for my help at all times. It is more than three years since I was healed of a nervous breakdown through the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner. At the same time my two children were healed of whooping cough. I was surely brought out of darkness into the light to see God as all good, for I had always believed Him to be a God who knew of both good and evil. Since then I have had many proofs of the healing power of the truth taught in Christian Science.
Although I am ever so grateful for the physical healings, I am even more grateful for the spiritual understanding of the Scriptures. Previous to taking up the study of Christian Science I never understood the Bible, and some parts of it I did not even care to read, as I interpreted them literally. It is little wonder, therefore, that words fail to express my gratitude for the spiritual light I have gained through the study of our textbook, I remember how puzzled I used to be with different passages of the Bible. One was in the third chapter of John, where Jesus says to Nicodemus, "Ye must be born again." Now we are awakened to see that the "old man with his deeds," of which Paul speaks, must be put off and be replaced with the "new man," and that we are changed only by the renewing of our mind. Wrong thoughts remind me of weeds in the garden. How quickly they spring up and spread, if not daily watched and cleaned out! It is a great help to me to keep in mind daily the last tenet as given by our Leader in the Church Manual (p. 16) and on page 497 of Science and Health. I feel it is a great privilege to be a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church in this city. I am also grateful for class instruction.—(Mrs.) Winifred B. Inman, West Point Grey, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
