Communion with God

Whenever the time approaches for the semiannual communion services in the branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, the heart of every alert Christian Scientist is stirred afresh to the contemplation of the significance of these holy occasions. While each earnest student thinks much of his individual communion with God, the uniting with his brothers all over the world in such consecrated effort to know the Father is also something not to be considered lightly. On the contrary, it is ever an opportunity to come consciously into that unity of thought and purpose which will bring over all the earth the blessing of pentecostal days.

In the Acts of the Apostles we read that when they were gathered together "with one accord in one place," as an immediate result "they were all filled with the Holy Ghost." Then, in the power of this great spiritual illumination the apostles told the people of the glories of God and His Christ, until thousands accepted the word thus declared. These "continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. ... And all that believed were together. ... And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."

How this picture always rejoices true Christian Scientists! What a promise it holds out to them of the marvelous possibilities of true unity! How it encourages them to press steadfastly forward with the hope of the speedy fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy: "It shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it"! How surely they believe that the experience of the apostles was but a foretaste of the abundant blessing which awaits the truly united communion with God of the true followers of Christ!
