Physical healing was not what I sought in Christian Science
Physical healing was not what I sought in Christian Science. It was a desire to have as my own the religion that could effect such a marked degree of spiritual regeneration in two of my relatives, who after only a few months' study of Christian Science were completely changed, reflecting love, humility, and understanding unlike anything I had ever before witnessed. However, I was greatly in need also of physical help; and this came quickly, bringing with it my first glimpse of the true God and His Christ, and the inevitable beginning of the new birth in my consciousness, whereby I am being healed of faults in disposition, making all forms of sin odious and giving me a better understanding of Spirit and of man in His image and likeness.
My eyes were healed instantaneously of astigmatism. The glasses I had worn for a number of years were laid aside, and distressing nervous headaches disappeared. This condition of my eyes had been with me since childhood and had caused me much suffering. Through daily study and application of the Lesson-Sermon, and the loving help of a practitioner, chronic sore throat and periodical attacks of the grippe vanished; and as I continued to add to my little store of understanding, the results were many proofs of God's power and willingness to heal.
During a Christian Science lecture three years ago, I was instantaneously healed of rheumatism in my arm. This disease was manifested because of a mental picture of the sufferings of a brother years before, at which time I conceived a great fear of it. I went to the lecture not thinking of my arm, but with a sincere desire to learn more about God, which attitude of thought made it possible for me to realize that the wonderful declarations of Truth with which the lecturer closed, could and would banish from my consciousness this fear. I raised my arm and found the pain and soreness had gone; and it has never returned. This experience brought me unusual spiritual growth and a much higher appreciation of our lectures.
