About three years ago curiosity took me to the first...
About three years ago curiosity took me to the first Christian Science service I ever attended. It was a Wednesday evening testimony meeting; and as I listened to the first three or four testimonies, I thought, They can't be telling the truth. But as I listened to more, the thought came to me: Surely these people would not say these things if they were not true. If they are true, then this is what I have been looking for all my life, and the Christian Science God is the God I have sought for in vain; indeed, this is the God to whom I can go in every need.
I had never seen a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; but I was so impressed by what I had heard that I felt a great desire to see a copy of this book. Having a friend (not a Scientist) who owned a copy, I asked her if I might look at it. I read it for some days at intervals, but it seemed to be only words, words, words. And yet, unconsciously, I was healed of chronic constipation and many other minor physical troubles.
With the help of a Christian Science practitioner I have been permanently healed of a disease for which several physicians told me I would have to be operated upon, but they could not promise me permanent relief. I am deeply grateful for these physical healings; but the spiritual uplift I have received through the study of Christian Science and the understanding I am daily gaining of the Bible, with its wonderful promises, have brought into my life a new joy. I can now go to the God of love whenever I need to, and can trust Him at all times. It makes no difference what the problem may be,—how big it seems, whether it be a physical or a financial difficulty,—I am learning to "leave it with Him;" and as I am willing and obedient, I do eat the "good of the land," realizing that "peace of God, which passeth all understanding."
