When a young girl I met with an accident, which not...

When a young girl I met with an accident, which not only caused great suffering but kept me from enjoying the pleasures of childhood, such as running and skating. The best physicians were employed with only temporary relief, each saying I must submit to an operation, but that this would help me only for a short time, and that I could never be well.

One Sunday morning after years of suffering, having spent my whole Christmas holiday in bed under the doctor's treatment, I started for church. Upon going a block I realized I was in the same terrible condition as before. As I was only a little way from the Christian Science church, I went in to see what it was like. The service was so quiet and restful, and appealed to me in so many ways, that the next day I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner. I was completely healed in less than two weeks' time. This was in January, 1907, and I have never had a return of the trouble since. I often look back at the gratitude manifested at that time. Although a woman, I wanted to run instead of walk. I heard birds sing as never before, was even grateful for the coloring in the sky, and saw beauty everywhere.

I was wearing glasses then, and had worn them since childhood. I had also been told I must have an operation on my eyes or become blind. One day, when I had been reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the truth came about my eyes. I realized that if one false belief about man could be overcome in Christian Science, as beautifully as in my first healing, another could also. I took off my glasses, and have never felt the need of them since; and I have perfect eyesight.
