The first healing I experienced through Christian Science...
The first healing I experienced through Christian Science was an instantaneous freedom from pain caused by varicose veins. It occurred soon after I first opened "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I did not clearly understand what I was reading, but it all seemed very beautiful. In a few moments I noticed that the pain, which had been almost continuous, had gone. In astonishment I closed the book and waited for it to return; but I am glad to say that this occurred eleven years ago, and I have never had the slightest pain in that leg since, notwithstanding the fact that I have stood on my feet a great deal and at different times have done strenuous mountain climbing.
The Science and Health I was reading had been sent to my mother by my brother. I turned to the flyleaf, and there was my brother's testimony. He too had been suffering from varicose veins and was expressing his gratitude for help received. I then realized that a healing had taken place, and immediately removed the elastic stocking I had been wearing. Mrs. Eddy says on page 322 of this book, "The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love." And this turning to something good in all humbleness resulted in instantaneous healing.
Before taking up this study of Christian Science I had had one sickness after another, until I began to feel that life was not worth living. Some of the things I have been healed of through applying the rules of this Science are grippe (that used to return each spring, and from which it sometimes took two months for the recovery of my normal strength), continuous colds, sore throat, constipation, headaches, and extreme nervousness.
