Being deeply grateful, and hoping that this testimony...
Being deeply grateful, and hoping that this testimony may help some one who is longing to know God aright, I wish to tell of the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. For years I longed to know God and to understand Jesus' mission in a practical way, but finding that the church of which I was then a member could not give me this understanding, I ceased to attend the services.
I was suffering at this time from a disease which a number of physicians had treated without any success. Finally, a specialist advised an operation; but he frankly said that, while he felt an operation offered the only hope, he could give me no assurance that a cure would result. I knew nothing of Christian Science, but having several friends who had been healed through its treatment, I decided to try it before submitting to an operation. I applied to a Christian Science practitioner for help, and was healed in three treatments. I could not realize that it was possible to be healed so quickly; but a week later, while memorizing the "scientific statement of being," as given on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was instantaneously healed of a severe cold. I then knew that God does not require time in order to heal.
I was very happy and grateful for the physical freedom, but the greatest joy was to find that Science and Health was truly the Key to the Scriptures, that all my questions were fully answered by it, and that my longing to know God was satisfied. I was lifted to the mountain top, and stayed there for some time; but I had to come down into the valley and begin climbing up again. At times the way seemed long and very, very steep; but with the loving help which I have had, and for which I shall ever be grateful, I have for over five years been gaining the spiritual understanding of God and man's relation to Him. This truth has proved to me the nothingness of sin, disease, and very severe inharmonious conditions. I am grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy, whose nearness to God enabled her to discover the Science of Christianity, thus making it possible for men to follow Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, in the manner of God's appointing.
