"O king, live for ever"

The words, "O king, live for ever," spoken by Daniel, have in them the true spirit of forgiveness,—the Christ reflected. Daniel had been in the lions' den all night, but his trust in the one omnipotent God, whom he loved and worshiped day and night, had kept him safe from the beasts. There was, however, a greater demonstration to be made,—his release from the lions' den, and the establishment of his inheritance, namely, to be made ruler; for an understanding of the truth about God and His laws must always lead and rule.

It should be remembered that although Daniel had been safe from the lions all through the night, and the morning hours were at hand, he had not as yet come out of the den. When, after that eventful night, the king came to the den in the morning, he did not apparently expect to find Daniel alive; but hope, to some extent, must have kindled in his breast, for he called Daniel by name. Then, immediately, there rang out the immortal declaration, "O king, live for ever," followed by Daniel's statement of his own innocency in the words, "Forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt." Then Daniel stepped forth from the den, free, the demonstration completed.

He had been faithful to his trust in God, and had proved his love for God and love for man. Thereafter he ruled by love, and presented a wonderful example to all those around him. Love worked in Daniel's case; it worked in many cases before Daniel, and has worked in countless thousands of cases since. It will always work, throughout all eternity; for God's law always works by love. How to bring this into everyday living, to apply it to the problems at hand with each and every one of us, is our great necessity. It means just what Mrs. Eddy says in such a concise manner in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 225); namely, "Love is the liberator." She further expresses with clarity the rightful expectancy of healing when she says in the same book (p. 177), "The evidence of divine Mind's healing power and absolute control is to me as certain as the evidence of my own existence." Forgiveness is born of the Christ-love, and will always liberate.
