My husband had been helped by Christian Science a few...
My husband had been helped by Christian Science a few years before our marriage, sixteen years ago, and at that time he wished me to take up the study of it, but I only laughed at him. Occasionally I would attend church with him, but not very often.
The little ones came one after the other, and we had the doctor in the house continually. My husband induced me to go to a Christian Science practitioner, who lent me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At that time I seemed unable to understand it. Our troubles increased. In five years I went to the hospital seven times, and had one operation after another, having two operations in one year. The doctors' bills were from one hundred to three hundred dollars each year. This kept up until about the first of May, 1921. The children and I were just getting over an attack of diphtheria, when my husband was taken down with it. The doctor tried everything he could think of, but my husband grew steadily worse, being unable to swallow even water. Then he said: "The doctor cannot help me. Call for Christian Science treatment; I know that can help me." I did so, and the practitioner came to the house about ten o'clock that evening. After she left, my husband fell asleep and slept until morning without difficulty. Prior to this he had been unable to do so, as he would choke as soon as he fell asleep. The next morning he got up, dressed himself, and was eating a hearty breakfast when the doctor telephoned. The doctor could hardly believe me when I told him that my husband was eating his breakfast. We have not had a doctor or taken medicine since.
When I look back at all those years of suffering, I think if we had only taken that one step in the right direction sooner it could all have been avoided. It seems as if we had awakened from a dream and passed from darkness into bright sunlight. I cannot express in words strong enough my gratitude for this great truth; and I hope this testimony may be of help to some one.
