I came into Christian Science about three years ago, and...
I came into Christian Science about three years ago, and little did I think what great benefits I was to receive. The word "grateful" certainly cannot express what I feel to-day. I came to Christian Science for physical healing, thinking I might be relieved of my ailments for a time; but I have found that he whom God heals remains healed. I called on a Christian Science practitioner and asked if I could be healed of constipation. I shall never forget how kind and reassuring that practitioner was. I had tried just about every medicine I knew of, as well as changing about from one form of religion to another. But at last I have found that for which I was seeking. The obstinate constipation, as well as all the conditions that go with it, was instantaneously cured; yes, cured at one visit, after I had struggled for over twelve years to overcome it. It has gone, thank God. Previously I had to have medicine every other day.
I am an underground worker in the gold mines, and I used to suffer terribly at night with a cough. Some nights I got no sleep at all. I began to despair of being able to earn my daily bread. I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment; and that night, the first for many nights, I slept like a child, and woke up feeling well and strong. The cough had vanished like mist before the sun.
Before coming into Christian Science I used to have periodical attacks of pain in the chest and severe pleurisy. It always meant from three to six days in bed and a visit from the doctor. He was very kind, and did his best, but finally told my wife to have me find some other employment. He said the tubes of the right lung were affected and that the longer I remained in the mine, the worse I would be. I did leave the mine for a while; but necessity knows no law. In order to support my family I had to return, and, as I thought, become reconciled to my fate. It is now about four and a half years since the doctor told us that; and with the exception of three months on a farm, I have been working underground ever since. The pleurisy and pain in my lungs have gone, and I have found that life does not depend on lungs and, according to God's law, one can work for his family without suffering. This beautiful blessing came to us through the study of the Bible, and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Need I say I am grateful to God and to that grand woman, Mrs. Eddy? What a gift to humanity; and to think that we can carry on with the great work of destroying the belief of evil!
