Christian Science is founded on the immutable truths of the Bible regarding God and man's spiritual relationship to Him, as exemplified by the life, teaching, works, and sacrifice of Christ Jesus. A religion which is manifestly producing the fruits which the Master said were the test of discipleship must be very much nearer the christlike understanding of the law of God than a religion which is failing in such fruits; for Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free;" and, "By their fruits ye shall know them." A confident reliance on the omnipotence and omnipresence of the God who is love produces hope, health, and joy; whereas the fear and hopeless despair of mortals have a contrary effect on themselves and those around them.

To material sense there seems to be matter, but to spirit ual sense all is the manifestation of Mind. The unreality of matter is fast becoming more and more recognized, even in the world of physical science, where matter has, in its final analysis, been described as a "hypothetical substance," or as a form of energy. The Bible avers that "the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." Can Christian Science be justly termed false because it lays great stress on these eternal verities, and follows a concept of God as infinite Spirit, Soul, Life, Truth, Love, who is "of purer eyes than to behold evil," but delivers us from it in the same manner as light annihilates darkness? Christian Science makes no absurd claims, for in its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 348), one may read; "I have never supposed the world would immediaterly witness the full fruitage of Christian Science, or that sin, disease, and death would not be believed for an indefinite time; but this I do aver, that, as a result of teaching Christian Science, ethics and temperance have received an impulse, health has been restored, and longevity increased. If such are the present fruits, what will the harvest be, when this Science is more generally understood?"
