"By faith he [Moses] forsook Egypt."—Hebrews 11:27.

How could I stay, when, having known Thy presence,
When, having seen and gazed into great space,
My sense was filled with Thy reviving radiance,
Tho' I but dimly saw Thy dwelling place!

Saw it but dimly—yet that misty vision
So far outshone the things of Pharaoh's court,
That I must follow till I see Thee wholly;
Till I shall know the truth that Thou hast wrought!

Yea, I must follow, for Thy love constrains me!
And all can follow; following Thee alone,
These too must know—my shadow-ridden brethren—
must adore, in freedom, at Thy throne.

Give them to know "the spring of Thy returning;"
Open their eyes, that they may clearly see
Through tangled bush and wilderness, still burning,
The light of life, immutable, in Thee!
