Autosuggestion is neither a factor in, nor the basis of, Christian Science. The very name autosuggestion indicates an emanation of so-called mortal mind, or, to use the words of Paul, of the "carnal mind." It is the aim of Christian Science to silence the suggestions of the carnal mind by bringing into human consciousness a better understanding of the divine Mind, which is the basis of Christian Science. "Not my will, but thine, be done" is the prayer of all true Christian Scientists. Every individual who has arrived at an age where he is able to think logically, has discovered the fallibility of human opinions. He has discovered that when he is guided solely by his own will he is prone to fall into error—sin, sickness, want, and woe. It is only as men are guided by the divine Mind that they are rightly directed; and there is no power which can lift mankind out of the errors into which it so continually falls except the omnipotent activity of this same divine Mind. That this is the Christian Science method of healing is specifically set forth by Mrs. Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder, on page 169 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in the following words, "Only the action of Truth, life, and love can give harmony."
