The basis of Christian Science is the Scriptural teaching...

The basis of Christian Science is the Scriptural teaching that the one cause and creator of all that is true or real must be, and is, good in nature, activity, and expression; that God is Spirit, perfect Mind, eternal Life, invariable Truth; that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good;" that "all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." Consistent therewith is the deduction that sin, sickness, and death are not from God and are without divine sanction or authority. Following the example of Christ Jesus, Christian Scientists support this logical argument of words with the unassailable evidence of good works, healing the sick, comforting the sorrowing, and liberating those bound by sin and suffering from its effects.

In regard to the doctrine of atonement, the second chapter in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy presents it in a clear, reasonable, and appealing manner. The following is quoted from page 25 in this chapter: "The spiritual essence of blood is sacrifice. The efficacy of Jesus' spiritual offering is infinitely greater than can be expressed by our sense of human blood. The material blood of Jesus was no more efficacious to cleanse from sin when it was shed upon 'the accursed tree,' than when it was flowing in his veins as he went daily about his Father's business. His true flesh and blood were his Life; and they truly eat his flesh and drink his blood, who partake of that divine Life."
