Christian Science has become known all over the civilized...
Drammens Tidende
Christian Science has become known all over the civilized world; and the experience of thousands to-day shows that Christian Science gives health instead of sickness, joy instead of sorrow, harmony instead of discord, and besides this an unshakable faith in the ever-presence of God's love. It must be evident that there can be nothing outside of God, good, who is infinite, has all power, and is omnipresent. According to the Bible there is only one cause and creator, God, good; and by holding this thought one avoids breaking the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." This was the truth which, during all his earthly career, Christ Jesus demonstrated in healing all who came to him in faith.
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 476, 477) Mrs. Eddy writes: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." Could even Christ Jesus have healed the sick if sickness were real?
Christian Science does not teach one to forget the existence of evil in order to make it disappear. Trying to deny and forget the suffering which to human sense seems real is to submit to the use of will-power, which is not the teaching of Christian Science, and which cannot be condemned too strongly. One must learn that because God has created man in His image and likeness, one has to find out what His image and likeness is. The Bible teaches us that God is Spirit, and from this it follows that His image and likeness, man, is the spiritual man. By thinking exclusively of the material body we lose sight of God as Spirit, and form a God after material concepts. By this the erroneous conclusion is reached that God, who is the Father of all, is able to send suffering and all distress to His children; but God is boundless Love.
