Besides the twelve apostles that Jesus sent forth, he sent...

Besides the twelve apostles that Jesus sent forth, he sent other seventy also; and we find in the tenth chapter of Luke that he commanded them to "heal the sick ... and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you." After the crucifixion of Jesus, Paul was converted and was thereafter known as an apostle of Jesus; and he performed many acts of healing, as recorded in the nineteenth chapter of Acts: "And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul." This system of healing was practiced for more than two hundred years after the resurrection of Jesus, until finally it appeared to be lost. But Mary Baker Eddy, by close study of the Bible, rediscovered this Science of spiritual healing; and to-day, thousands, yea, tens of thousands, joyfully acknowledge that it is being accomplished again; for Jesus said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." Mrs. Eddy, in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 194), says, "Though a man were begirt with the Urim and Thummin of priestly office, yet should deny the validity or permanence of Christ's command to heal in all ages, this denial would dishonor that office and misinterpret evangelical religion."

Any religion that honors God and gives to Him all power and presence can hardly be called "unchristian." Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 132): "Jesus' system of healing received no aid nor approval from other sanitary or religious systems, from doctrines of physics or of divinity; and it has not yet been generally accepted. To-day, as of yore, unconscious of the reappearing of the spiritual idea, blind belief shuts the door upon it, and condemns the cure of the sick and sinning if it is wrought on any but a material and a doctrinal theory." Christian Science restores health to the human body by the destruction of sickness and disease through spiritual means. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 427), "Immortal Mind, governing all, must be acknowledged as supreme in the physical realm, so-called, as well as in the spiritual."

In ancient Jerusalem they stoned the prophets; and in these latter days men have assailed with unreason those who have exemplified good. Mrs. Eddy followed the rule of expressing the Mind of Christ, which enables a human being not to revile again when reviled, but to do good to those who hate.
