After years of suffering and sickness, with a religion that did not satisfy, and faced with the futility of materia medica to cure my husband, I felt that there must be a better way; but owing to my opposition and antagonism to Mrs. Eddy,—of whom I knew nothing except what I had read in criticism of her,—I took something I thought just as good and read new-thought. After about six months a dear friend kindly but fearlessly told me there was only one authentic system of mental healing and that was Christian Science; that I should go to the foundational and study its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

I had suffered for nearly twenty years from the effects of a sprained knee, and had undergone various treatments with no beneficial effect; in fact, I was becoming quite incapacitated. An acute condition developed; and upon calling a physician he pronounced it very serious, and advised my immediate removal to a hospital, where he said it would be necessary for me to remain absolutely quiet for from three to six weeks. He said he could not tell what the outcome would be, and he would not be responsible for the consequences if I stepped on that foot.

This condition developed shortly after I had procured the textbook of Christian Science. My husband was away from home; and after the doctor left I decided I would read the Christian Science textbook, as I knew that people were healed by the statements of Truth in the book. I stayed in bed most of the time and read. At the end of three days and four nights I got up and did a big day's work, being on my feet for hours. I was healed; and the truth in the textbook had healed me. This healing took place more than eleven years ago and has been permanent. I have led a more active, useful life since then than ever before.
