From earliest childhood I had suffered....

From earliest childhood I had suffered. My father had taken me to the South, the West, and into the northern part of Michigan, hoping that he might find some place or something to help me. After the newness of surroundings wore away, the same old conditions came back. In the spring of 1903, I begged him to bring me again to the old home and friends. This he did. I was again taken to our kind old family physician, who advised an immediate trip to the mountains in Virginia, saying there was a tubercular condition present that medicine could never help, but the right kind of atmosphere might do some good. Like the one spoken of in the Bible, we had spent all we had. I knew that I could not take the advised journey.

A dear brother had just begun the study of Christian Science, and that evening he came in. During the conversation he was told of my plight. He reached in his pocket, brought forth a book, and smilingly asked me to read it, saying it would surely help me, as it had thousands of others. I wondered how reading a book could help me; so he opened the book, which was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began to read to me from the chapter on Prayer. When he read from page 2, "God is Love. Can we ask Him to be more? God is intelligence," a great peace filled my thinking. The fear was stilled. Then I read all night, and well into the next day. Before the book was finished I knew that I was healed. This healing has stood fast from then until now. The atmosphere of Love was found—the kind of atmosphere needed.

My family and I have received untold blessings from Christian Science. On page 495 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy says, "Truth casts out error now as surely as it did nineteen centuries ago." This statement is being proved every day. I am deeply grateful for all the Christian Science literature, and for all the loving help that has been given to us.—(Mrs.) ALMA ADAMS, Wabash, Ind.
