A few months after I began the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, an epidemic of measles visited our home. Five of us in the family were said to be susceptible, never having had the disease. Our ages ranged from fifteen to twenty-five years. All became ill but myself, were confined to their beds, and were attended by a regular physician for some weeks. I had entertained no fear of the disease during this period, as I was at that time greatly absorbed with the study of Science and Health and depending on its truth for my protection. One day, however, I was told by an acquaintance that my turn certainly had come, as I had not had the disease; and being the eldest it was thought I should have it more severely than the others. At this suggestion I forsook Truth's protecting power. I began to fear, and in a few hours manifested symptoms of measles. In a very short time I found myself also confined to my bed. I did not ask for a physician, but instead asked a Christian Scientist to treat me. He did so, and in a few hours I was easier. In two days' time I was able to be up. The other members of the family referred to, who were under the physician's care, suffered many weeks before being able to get out of the house.

Some months later, our home was invaded by what is called typhoid fever. Two of my brothers were confined to their beds for many weeks with this disease. They were cared for by a physician and trained nurses. My mother spent a great deal of time with them also, and finally succumbed to the disease herself. She went to bed, but did not allow the doctor to prescribe for her, as she was by this time becoming interested in Christian Science. She was at this point treated by a Christian Science practitioner and healed almost immediately, so that she was able to be about her duties again. During the winter of 1918, when the influenza epidemic was prevalent, she became extremely ill with this disease, but had a wonderful deliverance through the work of a loving Christian Science practitioner.

Through the study of Science and Health, and because of the above and many other demonstrations of the power of God to heal and to save through a correct understanding of Him, I have come to realize and appreciate the truth and grandeur of Mrs. Eddy's work, especially of that joyful announcement made by her to the waiting world, on the opening page of the Preface to Science and Health (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."—HENRY B.
