The Lectures

CHICAGO, ILL. (First Church).—Introducing Prof. Hermann S. Hering, a Christian Science lecturer, to his audience, Miss Lucille Tinnin spoke as follows:—

We read in the gospel of John, "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Christ Jesus gave us the living example of pure Christianity, and proved his mission to be from God, by destroying evil beliefs, healing the sick, and raising the dead. After he left the world, his great humanity and his glorified Christianity were, in time, so apparently obscured by human thought, that the truth he taught became well-nigh hidden from consciousness. When men grew weary of empty theories about Jesus and his wondrous life-work for the world, they turned to God Himself with unselfed earnestness for the truth. A steadfast desire to be delivered from ignorance of God and His Christ brought to the world the revelation of our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, which she named "Christian Science." With this revelation from God to her, Mrs. Eddy delved beneath the crust of scholasticism, and so shattered the materiality of centuries that the law of righteousness practiced by Jesus becomes clearer to us, as we daily learn to understand and prove the teachings of Christian Science. This is indeed, an inexhaustible subject; and we have overwhelming proof of its Christian mission, by thousands of cases healed of sin and disease, by the joy of its spiritual illumination, and by the greater love it brings to the consciousness of those who receive its blessings.

KINGSTON-ON-THAMES, ENGLAND (First Church).—The following prefatory remarks were made by Patrick W. Bryan at a Christian Science lecture delivered by Frank Bell:—
