Distribution

IF one would analyze the clamoring human needs of the business world to-day, possibly no greater need would be uncovered than that of equable distribution. On the one hand, we find the claim of overproduction; on the other, that of gaunt want. The farmer in America may find the apples wasting in his orchard; in Europe and Asia thousands are without adequate food. Even viewed in the light of human reason, it is not difficult to see that the supply for the world's need is abundant. During the European war, America, alone, proved capable of pouring out to the whole world mighty streams of supplies. Thousands upon thousands of tons of food their way across the ocean to feed multitudes of soldiers, refugees, and others. In our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 530), Mrs. Eddy says, "The earth, at God's command, brings forth food for man's use." Within many countries God's bounteous hand may be seen in the abundant crops that wave, golden in promise, on plain and hillside. No lack is there.

To-day, error's attacks may be seen directed specially against equable distribution. In some foreign countries, the lack of distributing channels has played a large part in bringing about such pitiful suffering as is to be found there. Obstacles are being placed in the way of the humane work done by willing workers, so that the supplies sent out from the many unselfish peoples abroad may not reach those for whom they are intended. In this again we see the effort of evil to paralyze and destroy the avenues through which the supply may reach those in need. It is not lack of supply, nor lack of willing hearts or hands, but a subtle effort of evil which would prevent the rightful distribution of the supply.

In our own beloved country, error seems ever busy in its attempt to stir up strife in such a manner as to paralyze distribution both on land and on sea. If all mankind knew that the right idea of distribution can be carried on by unchanging, harmonious, spiritual law,—law which cannot be obstructed in its rightful action,—then would the world see all legitimate action smoothly carried on, blessing all equally; for then would God be seen as the real source and controller of distribution.
