Christian Science, founded more than a half century ago by Mary Baker Eddy, is spreading to the ends of the earth, not by reason of propaganda, but because of its merits. Its basis is wholly Christian; its healing process is entirely spiritual, and cannot be combined with material methods. The healing of both sickness and sin is based on the Christian doctrine of the infinity of good, from which it is absolutely impossible to deduce anything else than the unreality—the nothingness—of evil. It may not seem easy for the sufferer to see how sickness can be healed from the basis of its unreality; but when the healing has been accomplished he begins to understand this underlying point in the work of Christian Science.
