Giving

GOD is the infinite Giver. Through all eternity there can be no cessation of His marvelous outpouring of good. It would be as impossible for God to cease to give as for Him to cease to exist. Since He is equally everywhere, His limitless bounty is never absent at any time, in any place, under any circumstance. To comprehend this stupendous truth would be to annihilate all sense of fear, all limitation of good. To understand, even in a degree, that one is always in the presence and under the control of the infinite Giver, who is divine Love itself, would open the door of faith through which one could fare forth into the fields of plenty, where is to be found supply for every need; where there is the perpetual unfolding of all that is real and good.

Human experience, however, would seem to be a constant denial of this glorious truth, since material sense testifies to crying want in every direction. In the midst of all the infinite affluence of God, why is it that mankind is always unsatisfied, is ever calling for more? Because it is so continuously thinking of getting instead of giving. To imagine that if controlled by the desire to get one can ever be satisfied is to be seriously deceived. The effort selfishly to possess invariably brings final disappointment. Only through giving can true happiness be won.

Christian Science not only shows the way to think intelligently of infinite divine giving, but it also reveals the method whereby one may prove his own unity therewith and share in its untold blessings. On page 5 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" Mrs. Eddy writes, "Christian Science comes to reveal man as God's image, His idea, coexistent with Him—God giving all and man having all that God gives." Does not this immediately unfold the limitless possibilities of giving? Since man has all that God gives, and is the image of the infinite Giver, how can he fail to reflect infinite giving? Indeed, man's ability to express perfect giving can never be lacking,—a giving governed by intelligence, wisdom, yes! by divine Love itself!
