The Lectures

Harrogate, England (First Church).—Introducing Judge Samuel W. Green, a Christian Science lecturer, to his audience, Arthur G. Stevenson said in part:—

Christian Science has done great things for me. It has brought me back, after many years of wandering in the desert, to a complete acceptance of the teachings of Christ Jesus and to a better understanding of God and His relation to man. Consequently, it has given me much healing of mind, body, and estate. It has taught me that when our Master healed the sick, reformed the sinner, walked on the water, fed the multitudes, and finally overcame the "last enemy," death, he did these works not through any mysterious quality in himself, but as the result of his complete obedience to the law of God, the law of Spirit, the law of Love. He refused to give the authority of law to any physical manifestation of discord or evil. And so he was able to give to his followers the promises of the Beatitudes, and also the command to preach the gospel, heal the sick, and cast out devils. These so-called miracles are not breaches of law; they are the manifestations of the overriding law of Spirit. God's law is not restricted by time or space. Evil is no part of God's creation; and the spiritually directed man, knowing his sonship with the Father, has power to overcome it.

Los Angeles, Calif. (joint noon lecture).—The following remarks were made by Edward J. Vaughn prefatory to a Christian Science lecture by Dr. Walton Hubbard:—
