I did not take up the study of Christian Science for healing, but rather that I might learn something of its teachings; yet among the first fruits which Christian Science brought to me was a physical healing.

The Sunday service, the first Christian Science service I ever attended, made a direct appeal to me, because of its simplicity and directness. Investigating, as I was, I then attended the Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and was deeply impressed by some of the statements made of benefits derived by the application of Christian Science. I then purchased a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and I had not read much of this book before I saw that in order to make a careful investigation of this subject it would be necessary to study the Bible in connection with it. This I had not anticipated. However, I soon purchased a copy of the Christian Science Quarterly, and at the same time brought forth a long-unread copy of the Bible, and began their daily study.

Previous to this I had been treated by physicians on two different occasions for what they termed, in each instance, an acute case of appendicitis. Their treatments afforded only temporary and partial relief; and each time they left me they stated that the condition was likely to return. The seeds of fear which they planted in my consciousness soon bore fruit, for the condition did return. In the meantime I had become deeply interested in the study of Christian Science; hence it was that when this condition returned the testing time came, for I found it necessary to determine whether I should resort to the physicians as in the past, or should try Christian Science. After some very earnest thought I decided to give the latter a trial, and accordingly sought the aid of a Christian Science practitioner. With four treatments the annoying condition passed entirely away, and it has never returned; and this was several years ago.
