God's Law of Blessing
In contemplating the human aspect of salvation, we early see two prominent facts: first, humanity needs to be saved from its errors; secondly, it is of itself insufficient for the task. Humanity cannot save itself. Since there exists, to human sense, a need of salvation, there exists also, in divine Truth, a way of meeting that need; for God has not ignored the need or withheld the Christly means. Mrs. Eddy has written in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." That expresses God's law of blessing, whose golden thread runs through all the fabric of His government. This law has innumerable statements, for Truth has infinite variety. Even as the sun sends forth its limitless light and heat, so God gives the riches of His being to all His creation. From the infinite God there flows out, to all, His infinite goodness, bestowing upon man and the universe His divine wisdom, law, power, and presence. The irrevocable and eternal truth is that God holds man forever in the divine image and likeness, and bestows upon man the divine qualities. Health, usefulness, happiness, holiness, are all here now. They are present; they are as present as God Himself. They await recognition and appropriation through demonstration.
"God is no respecter of persons," we read in the book of Acts. He has no favorite children. His law blesses one and all. Jesus said, "He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good." It is plain that the evildoer, the unspiritual one, need only turn from his false beliefs and practices to perceive the presence of good, and to receive it into conscious experience. The sunshine of God's blessing is here all the time; and whoso lets this sunshine in is conscious of the blessing. The all-pervasive presence of God means the exclusion of evil. Whenever, therefore, a calamity seems to appear, through reversal we may discover some great blessing. Heaven is the consciousness of God's blessings. Hell is the false belief that God's law is absent, or inoperative, or unavailable.
God's law of blessing is always here, always operative, always available to all. God's law is already made: man cannot make divine law. All real law is now operating. It is divine, and is a law of blessing to the human race. There are no false laws; and there is no power to make them. God is the sole source of blessing; and therefore man blesses his fellows by reflected grace and power. God's law of blessing operates to create and foster the desire to bless others; and under such unselfed conditions do men become able to see His blessings.
