Several years before I became interested in Christian Science...
Several years before I became interested in Christian Science I had an attack of appendicitis, and was subjected to a treatment which physicians term "starving out" the disease. I was finally relieved, but with the assurance from the physician that the trouble would return and I should then be compelled to undergo an operation.
Two or three years passed, and my wife and I became interested in Christian Science—not because of any need of physical healing, but purely as a religion which interested us because its adherents did not talk disease and calamity as did our fellow-members of another church. I had not been studying Christian Science very long when I was stricken with the second attack of appendicitis. I could do but little to help myself, and managed to get home from the office with great difficulty. A Christian Science practitioner was asked for treatment, with the result that after about thirty minutes, during which my wife read to me from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was freed from pain and went to sleep. I awoke in two hours perfectly healed, and ate a heartly dinner. This to me was wonderful, and convinced me that Christian Science could heal. After this, through treatement by the same practitioner, I was healed of piles. For more than eight years now Christian Science has met every need of my family. I am so grateful for the knowledge of God as revealed through the study of Christian Science.
The protection afforded through right thinking was shown to me in a wonderful way a few months ago. Our seven-year-old boy was down by a large tourning car going about twenty-five miles an hour. He was dragged fifty or sixty feet, and then fell between the wheels, which passed without touching him. My wife and I witnessed the accident and declared that the truth as taught in Christian Science. Bystanders marveled that the child was not killed, and declared that surely he must be hurt. This declaration was denied emphatically; and in a few moments the boy walked with his mother to his home, a block away, and I continued on my to the Wednesday evening testimony meeting. The healing was made complete through the truth as taught in Science and Health and the songs from the Christian Science Hymnal; and the child went to school the next day, never mentioning the incident.
