A treatment in Christian Science does not consist of the use of the human mind in any way, or in stating over and over again that one is getting better, which would imply that one is sick; but it is in essence an understanding prayer. A treatment is prayer to God which does not beg a loving Father to be Love, but which knows and affirms that He is Love, as the Bible declares. It is the realization that God's kingdom is come on earth as in heaven. A Christian Scientist places entire dependence intelligently upon God, the supreme intelligence, who heals His children now, as surely as in the time of Jesus, when the Master walked among men healing "all manner of disease." The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, says on page 495, "God will heal the sick through man, whenever man is governed by God." This textbook shows the grave and obvious dangers of the attempted control of one so-called human mind by another, and turns thought to God, the divine Mind, as the only safe refuge, to that Love "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." Christian Scientists are humbly striving to let that Mind be in them "which was also in Christ Jesus."

The Christian Scientist finds true healing in the divine Mind only, and eschews all other methods. Mrs. Eddy has set forth the purpose of this religion on page 17 of the Manual of The Mother Church as the practice of true Christianity; which purpose is, "To organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."
